The Canadian Library Association annual conference started yesterday in Montreal and the Gazette featured a story about librarians.
The article begins with:
“The image of a stern-faced matron with a tight bun, continuously shushing sniggering teenagers, has gone the way of the dodo.”
So I am wondering if the image of library workers (and libraries as lovely places to work) has changed, and if so, replaced by what? According to the reporter, librarians are “techno-savvy computer whizzes.” What image does that provoke?
